Publisher: Kuwait Scientific Society

  1. Purpose of the Policy

The Journal of Modern Medical Science (JMMS) recognizes the growing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and generative tools (e.g., large language models, automated image generators, data analysis AI systems) in research and academic writing. This policy ensures transparency, accountability, and ethical use of such technologies in manuscript preparation, data analysis, peer review, and publication.

JMMS is committed to maintaining scientific integrity, originality, and ethical publishing standards.

  1. Use of AI in Manuscript Preparation

Authors may use AI tools for:

  • Language editing and grammar correction
  • Improving clarity and readability
  • Formatting assistance
  • Preliminary literature exploration
  • Data organization and coding assistance

However:

  • AI tools must not be listed as authors.
  • Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the content.
  • AI-generated content must be carefully reviewed and verified by the authors.
  • Fabricated references, incorrect citations, or inaccurate scientific claims generated by AI are strictly prohibited.

  1. Mandatory Disclosure

If AI tools are used in any stage of manuscript preparation, authors must include a disclosure statement in the manuscript (usually under Acknowledgments or a separate “AI Usage Disclosure” section).

Example Disclosure:

“The authors used [Name of AI Tool] for language editing and structural suggestions. All scientific content, interpretations, and conclusions were reviewed and validated by the authors.”

Failure to disclose significant AI use may result in rejection or retraction.

  1. AI in Data Analysis and Image Generation
  • AI-assisted statistical analysis is permitted if the methodology is clearly described.
  • AI-generated medical images, figures, or diagnostic visuals must be clearly labeled.
  • Synthetic data must not be presented as real patient data.
  • Any AI-assisted clinical decision modeling must comply with ethical approval standards.

  1. AI in Peer Review

Reviewers:

  • Must not upload submitted manuscripts into public AI systems.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of all submitted materials.
  • May use AI for language support but not for generating the full review report without critical evaluation.

Editors:

  • May use AI tools for plagiarism screening, language checks, and workflow management.
  • Editorial decisions will always remain human-led.

  1. Prohibited Uses

The following are strictly prohibited:

  • Using AI to fabricate data, patient cases, or research results
  • Generating fake references or citations
  • Manipulating medical images without disclosure
  • Submitting fully AI-generated manuscripts without human intellectual contribution

Such practices constitute academic misconduct and may lead to rejection, blacklisting, or retraction.

  1. Compliance with Ethical Standards

JMMS aligns with international publishing ethics principles and encourages responsible AI use consistent with:

  • Transparency
  • Accountability
  • Scientific integrity
  • Patient confidentiality
  • Research ethics approval requirements

  1. Policy Updates

This policy may be updated periodically to reflect technological advancements and evolving academic publishing standards.
