Journal of Modern Medical Science (JMMS)

Open Access | Bi-Annual | Double-Blind Peer Review

  1. Commitment to Long-Term Preservation

The Journal of Modern Medical Science (JMMS) recognizes that scholarly publishing carries a long-term responsibility. Scientific literature must remain accessible, reliable, and intact for future generations.

This Archiving & Digital Preservation Policy outlines the journal’s approach to ensuring permanent accessibility, integrity, and stability of published content.

  1. Purpose of Digital Preservation

Digital preservation aims to:

  • Protect scholarly content from data loss,
  • Maintain long-term accessibility,
  • Ensure continuity despite technological change,
  • Safeguard against hardware or server failures,
  • Preserve the integrity of the academic record.

Preservation is a core obligation of responsible publishing.

  1. Permanent Accessibility

All published articles are:

  • Assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI),
  • Made permanently accessible online,
  • Stored in secure digital environments,
  • Preserved in standardized formats suitable for long-term archiving.

The DOI ensures persistent linking and discoverability even if website structures change.

  1. Archiving Systems

JMMS ensures long-term preservation through:

4.1 Institutional Archiving

Articles are archived on secure publisher-managed servers with regular data backups.

4.2 Third-Party Archiving Services

The journal may participate in recognized digital preservation systems, such as:

  • LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe),
  • CLOCKSS,
  • Institutional repositories,
  • National digital libraries.

These systems provide distributed preservation to protect against single-point failures.

  1. Metadata Preservation

In addition to full-text preservation, the journal preserves:

  • Article metadata,
  • Author details,
  • Abstracts,
  • Keywords,
  • Citation information,
  • Licensing data.

Preservation of metadata ensures discoverability and indexing continuity.

  1. File Formats and Technical Standards

Published articles are stored in widely accepted formats suitable for long-term digital preservation, including:

  • PDF (archival standard),
  • XML (where applicable),
  • HTML versions (for web display).

Standardized file formats ensure compatibility with evolving technologies.

  1. Backup and Redundancy

The journal implements:

  • Regular automated backups,
  • Secure cloud-based storage,
  • Redundant storage systems,
  • Periodic integrity checks.

These measures protect against accidental deletion, corruption, or cyber incidents.

  1. Preservation of Retracted and Corrected Articles

When articles are corrected or retracted:

  • The original version remains preserved.
  • Retraction or correction notices are permanently linked.
  • The scholarly record is maintained transparently.

Content is never silently removed without documentation.

  1. Website Continuity Planning

In the event of:

  • Publisher transition,
  • Journal ownership change,
  • Platform migration,
  • Organizational restructuring,

The journal commits to preserving uninterrupted access to previously published content.

Content will remain accessible either through:

  • Continued journal hosting,
  • Transfer to another reputable archival platform,
  • Institutional digital repository.
  1. Data Integrity Monitoring

Periodic monitoring ensures:

  • File integrity remains uncompromised,
  • DOI links remain functional,
  • Metadata remains accurate.

Any identified issue is addressed promptly to maintain reliability.

  1. Open Access Preservation

As a fully open access journal, JMMS ensures that preserved content remains freely accessible without embargo or subscription barriers.

Preservation practices are aligned with the journal’s Open Access Policy.

  1. Preservation of Supplementary Materials

Where supplementary files are published (e.g., datasets, images, appendices):

  • These are archived alongside the main article.
  • Appropriate formats are used for long-term readability.
  • Access rights mirror those of the primary article.
  1. Compliance with International Standards

The journal’s preservation strategy aligns with internationally recognized principles for digital archiving in scholarly publishing, including:

  • Redundancy,
  • Persistent identification,
  • Interoperability,
  • Format sustainability.
  1. Responsibility and Oversight

The publisher and editorial office oversee digital preservation measures. Technical partners involved in hosting or archiving must adhere to security and preservation standards consistent with this policy.

  1. Policy Updates

This policy may be updated periodically to reflect technological advancements and evolving best practices in digital preservation.
